#2295: the status bar's text can be selected and copied - #2559

The status bar painted its hint and messages, so a path, a file that would not open or the reason an export stopped could be read but not selected, copied or found by agents. It is now a selectable label in the same 20 px bar: a long message ends in "…" before the running job's progress (and shows in full on hover), the 8 s auto-clear stays, and a click beside the text still dismisses the message. Agents read the whole text as the `status.text` element. Ctrl+C on selected label text also reached the app's Copy shortcut, which copied the selected clips instead or, with none, replaced the message with "no clips selected". Selected label text now keeps Copy and Cut, the way a focused text field does. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Closes #2295.
What changes
The status bar painted its hint and messages with
painter().text, so a path, a file that would not open or the reason an export stopped could be read but not selected, copied, found by a screen reader or read by an agent. It is now a selectableegui::Labelin the same 20 px bar:status.textelement (ui.elements). I added a short note about it todocs/control-protocol.md.Copying with the keyboard
The issue asks for text that can be copied, and the label alone was not enough. A selected egui label is copied only through the Copy event (Ctrl+C), but Ctrl+C on selected text also reached the app's own Copy shortcut (
edit.copy) throughclipboard_events_as_keys. With clips selected, it copied the clips and put their names on the clipboard. With no clips selected, it replaced the message being copied with "commandedit.copyis not available right now: no clips selected".Selected label text now keeps Copy and Cut, the same way a focused text field does, so the message can actually be copied. The check (
LabelSelectionState::has_selection) runs beforeinput_mut, so the plugin lock is never taken inside the input lock. It is not specific to the status bar: any selected label text keeps Ctrl+C.Tests
crates/ui-egui/tests/status_bar_ui.rs(new; all four tests fail onmain):a_status_message_can_be_selected_and_copied: with every clip selected, drag-select the message and press Ctrl+C. The clipboard gets the message, no clips are copied, and the message stays.the_hint_is_a_label_tooa_click_beside_the_text_dismisses_the_messagea_long_message_ends_before_the_job_progress: also checks that the job's cancel button still takes its own click.lib.rs: a new unit test,selected_label_text_keeps_copy_and_cut.chrome_ui.rs:body_extentmeasures the panels and now leaves outstatus.*the way it already left outheader.*, since the status bar now registers an element. Both chrome tests also check that the status bar is there when shown and gone when hidden.I also rendered the app offscreen with the text selected next to a running export and checked the result by eye: selection in the accent colour, the message shortened before "Exporting… 42%".

Open PRs #1958 and #1725 already address it.Notes for review
edit.copyand never reaches the egui shortcut path. Ctrl+C on Windows and Linux is fixed here. I could not test macOS, so I left that path alone.contributors/people.toml.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
