Budget
To date (December 24th 2024), we have managed to avoid incurring any expenses while working on this project.
Our stakeholder has mentioned they are more than willing to invest funds into our project and when asked for a specific number said we simply should not worry. So at the moment the budge is vague.
We have attempted to estimate the annual cost to our stakeholder of using our webapp. The factors considered are listed in tables below.
Here is a summary of the options we are considering, which is followed by more in depth explanations.

Their "essential" plan costs $6/ month, or $4/month if a year long plan is chosen, and comes with the following features:
- Hosts 1 website
- 10 GB storage: Storage refers to the total amount of disk space available for your website's content.
- 10 databases: 2 GB of storage per MariaDB or MySQL database. If you choose one-click installation, we'll automatically create a MariaDB 10 database for you. MySQL 5 is available if you prefer to set up everything manually.
- Basic CPU and MEM resources: Performance level 1 of 5: Optimized for up to 100 website visitors per minute (384 MB PHP memory, up to 512 MB RAM).
- Free domain for one year: Choose from these domain extensions: .us, .ca, .com, .net, .org, .info, .me, .biz, .online. Free domain offer must be redeemed on the initial purchase of a 12-month contract term.
- Professional email: One email account with a 2 GB inbox included with your web hosting plan.
- Free wildcard SSSL certificate: A Wildcard SSL certificate safeguards your domain and up to 10,000 subdomains. It creates a secure connection between you and your visitors, protecting their personal data from third parties.
- Daily backup and recovery
- Free 24/7 support
If the disk space (website content) exceeds 10GB or if the website runs too slowly and can't handle enough users at once, the stakeholder may have to upgrade to the "starter" plan for $8/month
The "premium" plan costs $11.99USD/month wich is currently equivalent to $17.25CAD/month. If a 12 month long plan is chosen then it would instead cost $2.99USD/month or $4.30CAD/month. The plan comes with the several features and the ones relevant to us are listed below:
- Hosts a maximum of 100 websites
- 25000 monthly visits: represents the approximate amount of traffic the website can handle
- 100GB SSD storage
- 400 000 files and directories
- Unlimited free SSL
- weekly backups
- unlimited bandwidth: the number of visitors to your website is not limited
- free domain: when purchasing a year or longer hosting service
It seems highly unlikely that an upgrade to the plan would be needed in order to continue running our webapp in the future.

If we host our webapp with Ionos, the total cost to keep running our website would be $48 per year. If an upgrade to the Supabase database plan is required, then this would add to the annual cost which would then become $348/year. Note that these cost estimations do not account for taxes.
