Normalize the search query before matching.

This expression lowercases only name. font_name_matches("Arial", "ARI") returns false, although the function promises a case-insensitive match. Lowercase query as well and add an uppercase-query assertion.

Update font_name_matches to normalize the query before matching so uppercase and
mixed-case queries work case-insensitively; add an assertion verifying that an
uppercase query matches the font name.

Wire font_name_matches into the picker or remove it.

The function has no production caller. At Line 709, the picker still iterates every family without applying this predicate. The reported font filtering is therefore not implemented. CI also fails because cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings reports this function as dead code.

Update the font picker’s family iteration to use font_name_matches so it filters
by the query, or remove the unused function if filtering is not intended; ensure
the implementation no longer triggers the dead-code warning.

Keep the popup open when the search field is clicked.

craft_ui::ComboBox defaults to CloseOnClick, so clicking this field closes the popup before the user can type. Use CloseOnClickOutside and close the popup explicitly when a font is selected. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Fix the search hint encoding.

The literal contains mojibake bytes (C3 A2 C2 80 C2 A6). Use the proper UTF-8 ellipsis (E2 80 A6).

Allow keyboard focus to trigger the preview.

The preview updates only on pointer hover. A keyboard user cannot preview a focused font without committing it. Update the preview for the focused row as well.

Correct the #2973 issue reference.

Issue #2973 requests an end-user tutorial about video and audio fades. This code implements a caption font preview. Remove this reference or update the PR linkage so the change does not claim to address an unrelated issue.

Keep the preview outside the scrolling list.

show_ui places the entire closure in one scroll area. When the font list exceeds the popup height, the preview is below the visible rows and is hidden while users hover them. Use show_ui_with_header_footer to keep the preview visible below the list. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Render the sample in the hovered font.

The label interpolates the family name but does not apply that family to Aa. Every sample therefore uses the UI font, so users cannot compare fonts before selecting one. Render the sample using the hovered face, including registering it with egui if needed.
