codecs: the rayon deadlock test allows 120 s between two answered frame requests - #3241
gop::tests::rayon_frame_requests_while_decoding_on_rayon_never_deadlock (filmcraft-codecs) gave its 3,840 frame requests 120 s in total and reported "frame requests deadlocked" when they took longer. On a loaded machine they take longer while every request is still answered: a run with a progress count printed every 10 s answered requests at a steady rate and finished in 223 s.
The test counts answered requests and fails when none is answered for 120 s. A failed request on the worker thread now reports "a frame request failed" instead of "frame requests deadlocked".
Test, on Windows 11 (x86-64) with rustc 1.99.1, with six copies of the test running at once, two rounds:
On main at bfc2384: 12 of 12 runs failed after 121 to 123 s with "frame requests deadlocked".
With this change: 12 of 12 runs passed, in 166 to 259 s.
cargo fmt --all -- --check and cargo clippy -p filmcraft-codecs --all-targets -- -D warnings: ok.
On Windows 11 (x86-64) with rustc 1.99.1, on top of main at bfc2384 with #2386, #2057, #2138 and #3225 merged in (they fix tests that fail on main on Windows), with RUST_TEST_THREADS=2:
CRAFT_FONTS_DIR=<craft-fonts checkout> cargo xtask ci: fmt and clippy passed; the test step ran 113 test binaries with 3,669 passed, 1 failed and 46 ignored, and this test passed in it. The doctests (8 passed), layers, assets and wasm then passed, each run on its own.
The failure: media_foundation::av1_8bit_is_bit_exact (filmcraft-platform) reported "stayed in hardware (FilmCraft AV1)": the hardware AV1 decoder fell back to the software one on the loaded machine. It passed in 3 of 3 runs on its own. This change does not touch crates/platform.
git merge-tree reports no conflicts with main at bfc2384.

Tests
Improved deadlock test monitoring to detect stalled progress over time while still reporting worker disconnections.
…me requests
gop::tests::rayon_frame_requests_while_decoding_on_rayon_never_deadlock
gave its 3,840 frame requests 120 s in total. On a loaded machine they
take longer while every request is still answered. With six copies of
the test running at once, all 12 runs on `main` failed after 121 to
123 s with "frame requests deadlocked".
The test now counts answered requests and fails when none is answered
for 120 s. The same 12 runs pass, in 166 to 259 s. With the storytold#480 fix in
`isolated` turned off, the test still fails ("frame requests deadlocked
after 927 frames").
The Rayon deadlock test now checks frame-request progress in repeated 120-second intervals. It fails when no requests complete during an interval or when the worker disconnects.
The test counts completed frame requests and checks whether the count advances during each 120-second interval. It reports a deadlock when progress stops and still reports worker disconnection.
storytold/filmcraft#3046 — Changes Rayon isolation for decode work; this PR updates the deadlock test for that execution path.
storytold/filmcraft#3217 — Changes concurrent GopCache frame requests; this PR monitors progress from those requests.

The test may take an unnecessarily long time to report a genuine stall, but this affects failure detection rather than production behavior.

Systems and components
observed — crates (service) was modified; 1 changed file maps to changed impact.
Before / after behavior
observed — Modified behavior in crates/codecs/src/gop.rs: The test now counts completed frame requests and waits in repeated 120-second intervals. A timeout fails only if the completion count has not advanced since the previous interval; worker disconnection still fails the test. This replaces the former single 120-second deadline for the entire workload.

- Line 1103: Update the `rx.recv_timeout` wait to poll more frequently and track
when a response is observed; measure the 120-second deadline from the last
observed progress so further waits cannot extend it past that limit.

Approving. Test-only change: the GOP rayon deadlock test no longer allows 120 s for all 3,840 frame requests together; it counts answered requests and fails only when a 120 s wait ends with no more answered than at the previous wait (a real deadlock), and reports a disconnected channel as a failed request. I read the whole diff; the gate and SonarCloud pass at 995c44e. I read the code and the CI results; I did not run the app.
