Summary

  • Instructors can define badges on a manifest course from Settings. Pictures come from Files Public, and any published item that records a grade, including a quiz, can count toward the badge.
  • An assertion opens the course named inside it, so the badge page and baked image work after you leave the course. Publishing still stores a short link.
  • Assertion pages show the site name (opening the app home in a new tab) and Close. They no longer pick up the course menu or the site build menu. The same bar is used for file badges, file-lessons badges, and manifest badges.

Test plan

  • On a manifest course, add a Public PNG, define a badge, and check a published quiz. Confirm the quiz appears in the assignment list and progress counts it.
  • Open the unpublished assertion, publish it, then reopen the short link from Badges Awarded. The image, course line, and LinkedIn action for a completion badge should load without the course still being current.
  • Confirm the assertion bar is the site name and Close, with no Lessons, Tools, or Settings links. Check a file-based lessons badge the same way.
  • In Settings → Navigation, add Badges and confirm it is not added to existing courses until an instructor turns it on.

Made with Cursor

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a Badges section to course settings, where instructors can add, edit, reorder, and remove badges; choose public PNG images and completion requirements; and link badges to graded assignments.
    • Badge displays now support course images and provide clearer assignment links and progress information.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Assertion pages now load course-specific lessons and badge resources for more accurate badge and evidence display.
    • Courses without badge definitions now show a clear “No badges” message.

🟡 Minor · Pass $context_id to getAssignmentsForEvidence in… · BadgeService.php:346

lib/src/Services/Badges/BadgeService.php:346
🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Pass $context_id to getAssignmentsForEvidence in captureAccomplishments.

This PR adds the $context_id parameter to captureAccomplishments and the $contextId parameter to getAssignmentsForEvidence. Line 346 still calls getAssignmentsForEvidence($code, $lessons), so CourseBadges::placement receives context 0 at publish time.

The live assertion page in assertions/route.php (line 386) passes (int) $pieces[2]. The frozen snapshot does not. Course-scoped items, such as Quiz1 items, can then get different titles or anchors in the published evidence than on the unpublished page. A republish rewrites that snapshot.

🐛 Proposed fix
-            $items = self::getAssignmentsForEvidence($code, $lessons);
+            $items = self::getAssignmentsForEvidence($code, $lessons, $context_id);

the existing $context_id as its third argument, so published evidence uses the

Compare a whole percent so 55% is enough for a 55% badge, and keep a missing threshold at 100% when the badge is edited.

🟡 Minor · Resolve public badge images in the badge course. · Badges.php:249-256

lib/src/Controllers/Badges.php:249-256
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Resolve public badge images in the badge course.

CourseBadges::displayUrl() creates /files/Public/... without a course identifier. Files::servePath() resolves that path with FileRepository::getPublicFileByPath(), which returns the first matching public row from any course. If two courses use the same public path, an awarded badge can show the wrong image.

Resolve the file with its course context and use its SHA-256 download URL. Do not change FileRepository::normalizeFilePath().

Suggested fix
-    public static function displayUrl($badge): string {
+    public static function displayUrl($badge, int $contextId = 0): string {
...
         $public = self::canonicalPublicPath($image);
         if ( $public !== null ) {
-            $href = FileRepository::hrefForPath($public);
+            if ( $contextId < 1 ) {
+                $contextId = ReqScope::currentContextId();
+            }
+            $href = null;
+            if ( $contextId > 0 ) {
+                $link = FileRepository::ensureLink($contextId);
+                $row = $link
+                    ? FileRepository::getFileRowByPath($public, $link, $contextId)
+                    : null;
+                if ( is_array($row) && isset($row['file_sha256']) ) {
+                    $href = FileRepository::downloadHrefForSha256($row['file_sha256']);
+                }
+            }
             if ( is_string($href) && $href !== '' && isset($CFG->wwwroot) && is_string($CFG->wwwroot) ) {
                 return rtrim($CFG->wwwroot, '/') . $href;
             }
...
-            $url = CourseBadges::displayUrl($imagePath);
+            $url = CourseBadges::displayUrl($imagePath, $contextId);
