Lumetri: Auto Color Correction for clips or the whole sequence (#1152) - #2378
Adds lumetri.autoBasic (Clip > Auto Color Correction, Cmd+Alt+L, and an Auto button in Lumetri > Basic Correction). It solves a starting grade in Lumetri's own Basic sliders from each clip's picture, so the result stays an ordinary, editable grade:
white balance: grey world over the near-neutral pixels only, capped at +-40; a shot with too few neutral pixels (sunset, aurora, neon) keeps its colours
exposure: log-average luminance towards 18 % grey, 50 % strength, within +-1.5 stops
whites / blacks: the 0.5 / 99.5 % percentiles stretched to 2 / 98 %, only ever expanding, within +-50 (whites untouched in HDR)
contrast / highlights / shadows reset; saturation, other sections and the Input LUT are kept
Targets are the selected video clips, or every picture clip of the sequence with scope: "sequence"; all of them in one undo step. Lumetri Color is added where missing. whiteBalance: false leaves the balance.
The solver lives in filmcraft_render::auto_tone with unit tests; engine tests cover a dulled demo clip and the whole-sequence scope; a UI test covers the button and the shortcut.
Added automatic color correction for clips, with adjustments to exposure, tonal range, and optional white balance.
Run Auto from the Basic Correction panel or use the keyboard shortcut. Corrections can apply to the selection or the full sequence and can be undone in one step.
Documentation
Added guidance on automatic color correction options and behavior.

Merge Risk: Low · up to 5e6cb
Auto Color Correction can be used, but clients reading its reply may see grade values that differ from the project. Align the reply with the applied values before relying on it for automation.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 5e6cb
The new action confines edits to the active sequence and uses existing media access and undo mechanisms. No introduced security issue was established, but external caller authorization and underlying media-access behavior were not fully verified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — A caller able to execute the command can request correction of every eligible picture clip in the active sequence, not merely the current selection. The demonstrated mutation scope is that sequence's Lumetri effect state; no cross-project target or source-media write is introduced by this path.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The new action uses the existing Session command ingress and project-bound rendering authority. Active-sequence membership constrains resource targeting, but this is not evidence of external caller authentication or tenant authorization; those runtime controls remain unverified.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — Analysis-before-commit and snapshot history contain partial-failure effects on project state. Concurrent mutation is constrained by the synchronous mutable Session interface, but process interruption and external media changes during analysis were not independently exercised.

I read the whole diff (auto_basic in engine/src/color.rs, render/src/auto_tone.rs with its tests, the Auto button and menu entry, the docs and both test files) against main and Lumetri's own formulas. I found no defect in the engine side, and I'm leaving this as a comment, not an approval: filmcraft has no hosted CI and nothing here has been built or run by me (no cargo here), and what "Auto" should do to a shot is a product call (below) that the maintainers should make.
What I checked.
The solver writes back in Lumetri's own units: render/src/effects.rs:662-663 uses b0 = -blacks * 0.15 and w0 = 1 - whites * 0.15, which is the mapping auto_tone inverts (blacks = -b0 / 0.15 * 100, whites = (1 - w0) / 0.15 * 100); Temperature, Tint, Exposure, Whites and Blacks all exist with ranges −100..100, and every value Auto writes is clamped well inside them (±40, ±1.5 stops, ±50).
The result is an ordinary Lumetri grade, applied with one edit_sequence, so one undo takes back all clips and a Lumetri that was added (the test checks both). Targets are picture clips only (source_par and source_size present); graphics and adjustment layers are skipped, and an empty target list or an unknown scope returns an error rather than doing nothing.
The picture is analysed with the target clips' Lumetri switched off in a cloned project, at quarter scale, so a second press on an already-graded clip solves from the ungraded picture and gives the same answer instead of stacking.
The three new strings ("Auto Color Correction", the tooltip and "Auto") are in all eight required catalogs; Cmd+Alt+L isn't used by another default binding on this head. lumetri.auto in the docs is the button's automation id; the command is lumetri.autoBasic. No unwrap/expect outside tests.
Points for the maintainers (none blocking).
Auto clears the keyframes of Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, Blacks (and Temperature and Tint unless whiteBalance is false) and re-enables a disabled Lumetri (prm.keyframes.clear(), e.enabled = true). That fits "a fresh start" in the description, but a user who has animated one of those loses it silently and it isn't in the doc comment's list of what is reset; a mention in the docs (or leaving animated parameters alone) would avoid a surprise.
scope: "sequence" renders every picture clip synchronously inside execute (a quarter-size render_clip each); on a long sequence that blocks the caller for that time, and from the menu the UI thread. Probably fine for a first version.
The method is the heuristic in the description (grey world over near-neutral pixels, 50 % exposure strength, percentile stretch) and the tests use the demo clip, so whether it grades real footage (skin tones, mixed light, log material) well is the thing a receipt on real clips would show. The thresholds (0.25 saturation, 10 % of pixels, ±40, ±1.5 stops) are stated and tested at their edges in auto_tone.rs, so they are easy to tune; whether Auto should ship at 50 % strength is the maintainers' call.
commands: cargo fmt --all -- --check; cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets --locked --offline -- -D warnings; cargo test -p filmcraft-render -p filmcraft-engine -p filmcraft-ui-egui --locked --offline; cargo xtask layers; in the app: Auto on a dim shot, a colour-cast shot, a sunset, a log clip and an HDR clip; press Auto twice; sequence scope on a longer timeline; undo
expected: all pass, 0 ignored; Auto improves the dim and cast shots, leaves the sunset's colours, gives the same result on the second press, and one undo reverts every clip
holds: product call on the heuristic and its strength (point 3); no receipt on any platform; clippy nonminimal_bool on main (#2007) is not caused by this PR

Minor · Data Integrity & Integration · Quick win
Return the rounded values that lumetri.autoBasic writes to the project.
Lines 531-536 round each value to one decimal place before they go into the Lumetri parameters. The reply at Lines 542-545 reports the raw solver output (a.temperature, a.tint, a.exposure, a.whites, a.blacks). The f32 values also serialize with float noise, for example 0.30000001192. An agent or MCP client that reads the reply sees values that differ from the stored grade. In HDR, whites is reported although the command did not write it.
Round the reported values the same way as the written ones. Report whites as null in HDR so that the reply matches what was written.
Optionally reuse r1 at Line 532 so that one rounding rule serves both the write and the reply.
