[Bug] Error on creating new projects

Recently, I frequently encounter errors when creating new projects, either creating from scratch, and cloning from another project.

Thanks for the report. I can't tell from the console logs exactly what's going on. Could you look in the Network tab instead and see if there are errors returned from any /backend/api/* endpoints? Or better yet, export a HAR file and upload it? (this is a recording of all of the network requests the page made and their results)

Hmm, I still can't tell what's going on, sorry. The GET /backend/api/v2/notifications/queries/own/count-unread/ request that you mentioned looks like it failed the first time you tried this, but succeeded the second time, so I don't think it's the actual cause. And the HAR file you uploaded contains only the information about that specific request (I think this happens when you right click on a request and then "Copy as HAR"), so I can't see from it if any other requests failed.

Some tips for debugging this further:

1. Be sure to open the devtools first, before creating the project (network requests are only recorded when the panel is open).
2. Check the box that says "Preserve log" in the Network tab so that the logs aren't cleared on page changes
3. After you've finished reproducing the issue, click this button in the top toolbar of the Network tab to export an HAR log that includes all of the requests from the entire session.
   

I'm hoping that this log will show what's going wrong (possibly a 400 or 500 error from the POST /backend/api/v2/projects or similar). Sorry for the back and forth.

Thanks. That HAR file narrows down the issue. POST /backend/api/v2/projects/ is returning a 504 gateway timeout, which means that the backend timed out while trying to process the uploaded task data.

The POST request body isn't included in the HAR file (I thought it would be but I guess I was wrong). But the Content-Length header indicates that the body was 29MB which is quite large. The body of this request contains both the GeoJSON of the area of interest as well as each individual task that's being created. The backend then inserts a row into the database for each of these tasks.

I'm guessing that either the area of interest GeoJSON is very complex, or the number of tasks is too large, or both. If you're able to, could you share the GeoJSON polygon and tell me how many tasks were in the project you were trying to create?

One other thing to try: in Step 3 of the project creation workflow ("trim task grid"), if you checked the "Trim the tasks to define the exact Area of Interest for mapping" option, try again with this option unchecked. Checking the option trims the task squares to the exact extent of the AOI; unchecking it leaves them as squares (just discarding any that are completely outside the AOI) which should make their geometries slightly smaller when uploading them.

I've included the GeoJSON file below. It contains 516 tasks in total(although we have successfully created projects of larger sizes in the past, like this one), each approximately the size of a zoom 17 Bing tile, so I assume it's not overly complex. However, the tasks are sparsely distributed across distant locations.

When creating the project, I didn't use the "trim task grid" option. Instead, I enabled "set tasks using uploaded polygons". Could this be contributing to the issue?

Side note: I split the GeoJSON file into two separate files, each containing a lower number of tasks. After doing so, the project creation process was successful.
