NETCONF examples

Curated NETCONF <rpc> request bodies for labs, automation authors, and the NETCONF client for VS Code examples library.

Purpose

Each file is a single RPC you can open in the editor and send over NETCONF. The repository documents standard protocol operations, IETF and OpenConfig models, and native Nokia SR OS / SRLinux payloads.

Principles

• One RPC per file; message-id equals the filename (without .xml).
• RPC files contain no ]]>]]> framing (the client adds framing on the wire).
• Placeholders are illustrative—validate on your release before production use.
• RFC folders are protocol reference only (no device compatibility tracking).
• Model and native folders record lab compatibility in per-folder validation.yaml.

Quality checks (contributors)

pip install -r tools/requirements.txt
python tools/check.py

Requires Python 3 and xmllint (libxml2). All tooling lives under tools/.

Manual device validation

Lab-only (never runs in CI):

pip install -r tools/requirements.txt
python tools/validate.py --host <mgmt-ip>

Uses declarative profiles under tools/validate/profiles/ and updates dimension lists in each folder’s validation.yaml. See CONTRIBUTING.md.

CI runs python tools/validate.py --verify to ensure compatibility claims match git history.
