Hi, I'm Chris Ladino

Infrastructure and platform engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area, focused on identity and access, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and observability across hybrid cloud environments. Previously senior systems engineer at Uber, with several Bay Area infra roles before that. Open to new work.

I run a homelab called quasarlab (yes, the handle is Mithrandir, fitting). Everything in code, one source of truth per system, observability designed before the workload ships, and post-incident writeups that are honest about what broke. The alerts are LOTR and Star Wars themed, because a recognisable shape is easier to triage at 2am.

Certifications: CCNA, MCITP, MCSE, VCP5-DCV.

🌌 Featured: Quasarlab (homelab, fully IaC)

  • πŸͺ quasarlab-portfolio: the flagship repo. Architecture, design decisions, runbooks, and field reports across the whole lab. Start here.
  • ☸️ k8s-argocd: GitOps for the cluster. ArgoCD applications, Helm rendered via Kustomize, ESO + 1Password for secrets.
  • 🌍 terraform-quasarlab: VM, network, and service provisioning on Proxmox plus the edge.
  • πŸ€– ansible-quasarlab: configuration management, dynamic Proxmox inventory, OS baselines, patching playbooks.
  • πŸ“ˆ observability-quasarlab: Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana, Loki + Vector, Wazuh. Every dashboard and alert as code.

πŸ” Astronomy OSS (side of desk)

Contributions to scientific Python tooling for survey and time-domain astronomy:

🌱 Currently Learning

  • The rhythm of public OSS work, especially across the astronomy stack above. Much newer to proposing changes, surviving review, and release cycles than I am to running production infra. Patient maintainers very welcome.
  • Godot 4 + GDScript, building Quasaria, a solo 2D space RPG. Pre-dev, milestone 1 deliberately tiny, lore and design bible already locked in. Turns out years of incident postmortems make for decent worldbuilding practice.

🌟 Off the keyboard

I love stargazing (Celestron PowerSeeker 127EQ). LOTR, Star Wars, and the slow craft of building durable systems.
