Add attributionDomains to Actor vocabulary - #1353
Expose Mastodon's attributionDomains on the five actor types and on Update, so applications can publish the domains Mastodon uses for fediverse:creator link credits without subclassing vocab classes.
Mastodon reads attributionDomains both from an actor and from the actor embedded in an Update. Fedify previously dropped the property, and on an embedded actor the property compacted to toot:attributionDomains because update.yaml lacked the term. Mastodon treats the missing bare key as an empty list.
How
attributionDomains is a non-functional string property on person.yaml, application.yaml, group.yaml, organization.yaml, and service.yaml. Values are bare host names; Fedify does not normalize or validate them, matching Mastodon's ingest behavior.
Each actor context and update.yaml uses Mastodon's {"@id": "toot:attributionDomains", "@container": "@set"} term. The @set container keeps the bare key and the array shape during JSON-LD compaction. The vocab schema in schema.yaml accepts @container terms through an additive if/then guard, so existing term definitions keep validating and invalid containers such as @id are rejected.
Compound proof verification now treats @set as simple when exempting embedded portable keys. Without that change, adding the term to Fedify's own actor context stopped those keys from being exempted; @list remains non-simple.
Mastodon credits an account named in a page's `fediverse:creator` meta tag
only when the account's actor lists the link's domain in
`attributionDomains`. Fedify had no such property, and an `Update` that
embedded an actor compacted the key as `toot:attributionDomains`, which
Mastodon reads as a missing key and resets the account's list.
This commit includes the following changes:
- Added the `attributionDomains` property to `Application`, `Group`,
`Organization`, `Person`, and `Service`, with Mastodon's `@set` context
term, so the key serializes bare in actor documents and in `Update`
documents that embed an actor.
- Taught `@fedify/vocab-tools` embedded `defaultContext` terms to accept
`"@container": "@set"` and `"@list"`, enforced with a conditional guard
that keeps the legacy term shape and rejects invalid containers.
- Allowed `@set` container terms when checking whether an actor's context
is simple enough to exempt embedded portable keys from compound proof
verification; `@list` and other containers stay non-simple.
- Added round-trip, `Update`, single-value, empty-value, inline-context,
and preloaded-context tests, and documented the property for application
authors and vocabulary contributors.
Design reviewed with Kimi K3.1 Pro and Codex GPT-6 Astra; the final code
review found no actionable findings. Tests passed on Deno, Node.js, and
Bun for the affected packages; `mise run check`, `mise run check:md`, and
`mise run docs:build` also passed.

Walkthrough
The changes add attributionDomains to five actor vocabularies and the Update context. They extend embedded-context schema validation for @set and @list, allow @set in compound-proof context checks, and configure XSD string decoding to skip unparsable values.

Summary
Attribution domain property and contexts packages/vocab/src/{application,group,organization,person,service}.yaml, packages/vocab/src/update.yaml
The five actor vocabularies define attributionDomains as a string property and map it to toot:attributionDomains with an @set container. Update adds the term to its context.
Attribution domain serialization and parsing packages/vocab/src/attribution-domains.test.ts, packages/vocab/src/vocab.test.ts, packages/fedify/src/federation/handler.test.ts
Tests cover actor round-trips, string and array forms, parsing values from Mastodon contexts, and serialization of an embedded actor in an Update.
Schema types and validation accept embedded term definitions with @container set to @set or @list. Tests cover valid and invalid definitions. Documentation distinguishes term-level containers from the property-level container: list option.
fedify-dev/fedify#1355 — This PR adds a typed attributionDomains property and Update context term, but does not add the generic extension-property APIs described by the issue.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
Each change outside the five actor YAML files and update.yaml connects to #1234:
(a) schema.yaml, schema.ts, and schema.test.ts. Validation of the new @container context term requires an additive guard. Invalid containers such as @id are still rejected. Existing term definitions still validate. The guard applies to all defaultContext terms. This is a necessary consequence of the new term.
(b) compound-proof.ts and its test. Adding @set to Fedify's actor context stops embedded portable keys from being exempted. The change restores the exemption for @set and keeps @list non-simple.
(c) type.ts and the generated xsd:string decoder. The decoder skips JSON-LD values whose @value is not a string. This applies to all xsd:string properties, not only attributionDomains. It connects to #1234 through the non-string attributionDomains parsing cases in attribution-domains.test.ts. The PR description does not describe this change. This is a documentation gap, not evidence of an unrelated change.
(d) handler.test.ts and vocab.test.ts. These are expectation updates for the new context term.
(e) Changelog entries and skill documentation. These describe the new property, the schema change, and the compound-proof change for application authors and vocabulary contributors.
Snapshot files are excluded by the !**/*.snap rule. They are not assessed here. No demonstrated unrelated change is identified.

Explanation
[#1234] Reviewable evidence supports these requirements:
(1) Property definition. person.yaml, application.yaml, group.yaml, organization.yaml, and service.yaml each add a plural string property attributionDomains. The URI is http://joinmastodon.org/ns#attributionDomains and the range is xsd:string. The property is non-functional. Met.
(2) Actor context term. The five actor contexts map attributionDomains to toot:attributionDomains with @container: "@set". Met.
(3) Embedded actor in Update. update.yaml defaultContext maps the same term. attribution-domains.test.ts checks that the compacted actor inside an Update keeps the bare attributionDomains key. Met.
(4) Round-trip and parsing tests. attribution-domains.test.ts covers round trips on all five actor types. It also covers absent, non-string, and Mastodon-shaped values, including a single string value. Met.
(5) Inline expectations. vocab.test.ts and handler.test.ts include the new context term.
Open items:
(a) Snapshot regeneration for Deno, Node.js, and Bun is required by #1234. The snapshot files depend on paths excluded by the !**/*.snap rule, including packages/vocab-tools/src/snapshots/class.test.ts.{deno,node}.snap and class.test.ts.snap. Their content cannot be verified here.
(b) The proposal lists singularName: attributionDomain for all five types. The person.yaml summary states that Person has no singular accessor. The application and group summaries do not state one. This deviates from the proposal. The issue does not state a singular accessor as an objective, so this does not fail the requirements by itself.
(c) #1234 states that parsing with the preloaded Mastodon context depends on #1233. The new test that parses with the preloaded context is in this PR. Its outcome at head is not established.
No concrete unmet coding requirement is found.
Resolution
Provide evidence that the regenerated Deno, Node.js, and Bun snapshot files match the output at the reviewed head. A passing snapshot test run at head or the snapshot file contents are sufficient. Confirm whether Person, Application, and Group intentionally omit singularName: attributionDomain. Confirm that the preloaded-context parsing test in attribution-domains.test.ts passes at head, given the dependency on #1233.

The shared `xsd:string` decoder read `@value` without checking its type, so
a remote document with `{"@value": 42}` placed a number in a string accessor.
Mark `xsd:string` as lenient so the existing data check skips malformed values
instead of passing them to the decoder.
