Basic explanation

What this does: Adds fixed examples of saved data, hashes, signatures and encrypted DashPay fields so future dependency upgrades can be checked against historical results.

Value: Makes the compatibility tests from #5307 independently reviewable and mergeable on v5.1-dev before the dependency upgrade.

Risks: Low: tests, fixture generators and documentation only. Production code, dependency pins and storage formats are unchanged. The vectors cover synthetic historical records, not every possible live-chain state.

Issue being fixed or feature implemented

Extract all frozen vector additions from #5307 at cbb694d261. This PR targets v5.1-dev directly and does not depend on #5307. The original PR retains its vectors and tests unchanged.

What was done?

  • Preserve the BLS corpus: 16 Basic signatures, five secure aggregates, three key-generation cases, four scalar boundaries and three validator/validator-set storage cases. Exercise the existing blsful backend; candidate-backend comparisons remain in chore(platform)!: update rust-dashcore (incl secp256k1 0.33) #5307.
  • Freeze V0/V1/V2 quorum records, current/previous keys, saved states, checkpoints and populated GroveDB masternode/validator entries, including the exact 48-byte quorum-key layout.
  • Cover eight Core transaction encodings/txids, ChainLock/InstantLock IDs, address-transfer signing inputs/ECDSA/BLS signatures, and encrypted DashPay fields inside a signed document batch.
  • Preserve ECDH and DashPay ciphertext constants plus the RFC8032 public-key-to-node-ID vector through the exported FFI helper.
  • Include a single scripts/generate_historical_test_vectors.sh runner and historical provenance. The runner installs seven ignored test modules into a separate checkout pinned to 6499c680c6, then generates encryption before the signing corpus. It requires a new output directory and never rewrites committed vectors. No generator main() functions or Cargo example targets are added.
  • Keep the frozen expected bytes identical to chore(platform)!: update rust-dashcore (incl secp256k1 0.33) #5307, using grouped Rust constants and the existing single BLS JSON corpus. Adapt only test/generator calls to the historical APIs.

In-place changes to shipped generations

Existing runtime files gain only #[cfg(test)] modules. No runtime behavior, consensus rule, disk format or migration changes.

How Has This Been Tested?

On v5.1-dev (6499c680c6) with unchanged rust-dashcore 40268cc0:

  • DPP BLS/hash and encryption suites: 16 tests passed.
  • FFI node-ID suite: two tests passed.
  • Drive quorum/storage suite: 46 tests passed, including all seven extracted storage tests.
  • Total: 64 passing tests, including 25 new tests in this PR.
  • All-target/all-feature Clippy passed for DPP, Drive ABCI, platform-encryption and platform-wallet-ffi with CI lint flags.
  • Frozen expected values remain identical to chore(platform)!: update rust-dashcore (incl secp256k1 0.33) #5307. Formatting and whitespace checks passed.
  • The generation script completed end to end: all seven ignored generator tests passed on the pinned checkout. Compared its BLS JSON corpus, 12 storage constants, 19 signing constants, seven encryption constants and eight transaction/txid pairs against the frozen expectations; all matched.
  • Scoped generator Clippy passed on the historical checkout with --test generate_historical_vectors --all-features -- --no-deps -D warnings.
  • ShellCheck, Bash syntax, CLI argument checks and refusal to overwrite an existing destination passed. Cargo metadata confirms the generator example target is absent.
cargo test -p dpp --test bls_compatibility --test historical_hash_compatibility -p platform-encryption --test historical_compatibility --locked
cargo test -p drive-abci --lib --all-features --locked platform_types::signature_verification_quorum_set
cargo test -p platform-wallet-ffi --lib provider_key_at_index::tests --all-features --locked --offline
cargo clippy -p dpp -p drive-abci -p platform-encryption --all-targets --all-features --locked -- --no-deps -D warnings
cargo clippy -p platform-wallet-ffi --all-targets --all-features --locked --offline -- --no-deps -D warnings

Cargo verification used the cache wrapper with offline resolution. FFI validation ran on the isolated specialist commit; its test file is identical after integration.

✅ Final review complete — no blockers (commit ef99da6) · triage: normal

Use one script to install and run the generators in an isolated checkout
pinned to the pre-upgrade Platform revision. Replace all seven main()
entry points with ignored tests and remove the public Cargo example.
Keep generated output separate from the committed regression constants.

Validation: all seven generator tests passed end to end; all generated
values match the frozen corpus. ShellCheck, argument/output guards,
Rust formatting and scoped generator Clippy passed.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

Verified the supplied findings against the exact PR head. One actionable suggestion remains: the new encryption compatibility tests are not selected by regular Rust CI; the other observations are safe fixture-specific behavior or optional cleanup. Validation was static only; Rust workspace tests and several other checks were still pending in the supplied CI snapshot.

In `packages/rs-platform-encryption/tests/historical_compatibility.rs`:
- [SUGGESTION] packages/rs-platform-encryption/tests/historical_compatibility.rs:73-74: Include the encryption compatibility suite in regular Rust CI
None of the four new compatibility tests are executed by the current Rust CI workflow. The non-shielded command in `.github/workflows/tests-rs-workspace.yml` explicitly selects packages but omits `platform-encryption`; the remaining test phases select Drive-ABCI simulations, shielded tests in other packages, or doctests. Workspace Clippy checks this integration target without executing its assertions. The DPP DashPay compatibility test deserializes frozen ciphertext rather than invoking the encryption implementation, so it does not provide equivalent coverage. Add `--package platform-encryption` to the non-shielded package list or add an explicit integration-test command so future encryption and ECDH changes are automatically checked against these historical vectors.

Remove the duplicate quorum-storage output from the populated generator.

This loop writes quorum-storage-v1.hex and quorum-storage-v2.hex into the populated output directory. The quorum generator already writes the same files. The README lists no such files for the populated set. The extra files add noise and may confuse reviewers who compare outputs. Remove the loop, and the unused imports it makes redundant.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

The complete diff adds frozen compatibility tests, fixtures, isolated historical generators, documentation, and CI coverage without changing production behavior, dependency pins, or storage formats. No actionable in-scope issues were found, and the prior encryption CI coverage gap is fixed. Validation was static only; the supplied CI snapshot at 2026-10-09T14:23:55Z still shows Rust workspace tests in progress and Kotlin SDK validation queued.

Bring in v5.1-dev through 054563c. #5359 upstreamed this branch's
frozen historical vectors (cbb694d) and part of #5320's BLS
compatibility tests, so this merge must come after the sub-PRs: with
#5359 underneath, #5320's reviewed diff would not apply unchanged.

Keep #5359's consolidated fixture generators and CI coverage, and retain
the migrated BLS APIs and additional backend assertions. Require
compatible blst versions for Core message and quorum verification.
