Issue being fixed or feature implemented

Backports 3 Bitcoin Core v0.27 pull request(s) to Dash.

What was done?

  • build: Fix -Xclang -internal-isystem option bitcoin/bitcoin#29195 — build: Fix -Xclang -internal-isystem option.
Upstream: build: Fix -Xclang -internal-isystem option bitcoin/bitcoin#29195 (merge 9e1306f). Dash commit: 11a121b.
Backports the configure.ac fix that passes -Xclang -internal-isystem -Xclang /usr/local/include/ as separate arguments, matching upstream exactly. Upstream's native macOS CI Xcode 15.0 switch is not applicable because Dash has no native macOS CI job.

    Dash adaptations:

    • .github/workflows/ci.yml: upstream's Xcode 15.0 switch in the native macOS job is not taken; Dash has no native macOS CI job, so there is nowhere to apply it.

Not applicable to Dash (intentionally omitted):

    • .github/workflows/ci.yml: Dash replaced ci.yml with its own workflows, which have no native macOS job (darwin is cross-compiled on Linux), so the xcode-select switch has no counterpart.
  • ci: Rename tasks (previous releases, macOS cross) bitcoin/bitcoin#29218 — ci: Rename tasks (previous releases, macOS cross).
Upstream: ci: Rename tasks (previous releases, macOS cross) bitcoin/bitcoin#29218 (merge 8c0d1c6). Dash commit: 80b4d63.
Renames ci/test/00_setup_env_mac.sh to 00_setup_env_mac_cross.sh and 00_setup_env_native_qt5.sh to 00_setup_env_native_previous_releases.sh (including the CONTAINER_NAME change), and updates Dash's ci/dash/matrix.sh and the GitHub Actions previous-releases cache key to the new names. Upstream's .cirrus.yml task renames are not applicable because Dash has no Cirrus CI.

    Dash adaptations:

    • ci/test/00_setup_env_native_previous_releases.sh: keeps Dash's own body of the renamed qt5 script; only upstream's CONTAINER_NAME rename is applied
    • ci/dash/matrix.sh: linux64 and mac targets now source the renamed 00_setup_env_native_previous_releases.sh and 00_setup_env_mac_cross.sh
    • .github/workflows/test-src.yml: previous-releases cache key hashes the renamed 00_setup_env_native_previous_releases.sh
    • .cirrus.yml: Cirrus task renames dropped; Dash runs these jobs through GitHub Actions + ci/dash/matrix.sh, which take the file renames instead

Not applicable to Dash (intentionally omitted):

    • .cirrus.yml: Dash has no Cirrus CI; its counterpart (ci/dash/matrix.sh, .github/workflows/test-src.yml) is updated for the renamed files instead
  • build: remove duplicate -lminiupnpc linking bitcoin/bitcoin#28755 — build: remove duplicate -lminiupnpc linking.
Upstream: build: remove duplicate -lminiupnpc linking bitcoin/bitcoin#28755 (merge 9d594ed). Dash commit: 596e916.

Walkthrough

CI configuration now selects the native previous-releases and macOS cross-build environment scripts. The releases cache key uses the previous-releases setup script. Configure probes pass the macOS include option and path separately, and check miniupnpc and NAT-PMP library symbols only when the corresponding headers are available.

Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

No actionable in-scope defects were identified. The three backports preserve the relevant upstream configure changes and update all Dash-side consumers of the renamed CI scripts; the documented omissions are explicitly inapplicable to Dash. Lint, merge, format, and conflict checks pass; source-build checks remain queued, with no failed code checks at the supplied head.

P1 Badge Preserve the informational clang-format workflow

When a PR has any formatting difference, this exit is reached inside the per-file loop. The repository's CI caller, .github/workflows/clang-diff-format.yml:23, runs the script as the first command of an Actions run step and expects lines 24-32 to inspect diff_output.txt; status 1 makes the fail-fast shell terminate before those diagnostics and the informational summary execute, changing the nonblocking check into a failed check and reporting only the first file. Preserve Dash's zero-status reporting behavior or explicitly capture this status in the workflow while still propagating actual tool failures.

Agreed, this is a Dash-specific breakage: the old script exited 0 on a diff, and the default bash -e step now fails before the informational summary runs. I changed the Dash-only CI workflow (a CI definition, not upstream code) to record the script's exit status and fail only on a real tool error (non-zero exit with no diff output); the script stays identical to upstream. One limit remains: the upstream script stops at the first file with a diff, so the summary now reports at most one file per run. (folded into the bitcoin#29251 commit)

P1 Badge Declare the included bitcoin#29251 backport

The three declared backport commits touch only configure.ac and the renamed CI files; this 314-line replacement exactly matches the separate ff50fd14 backport of bitcoin#29251, but the title, change list, and test results mention only bitcoin#28755/bitcoin#29195/bitcoin#29218. This leaves reviewers and backport tracking comparing the diff against the wrong upstream set; either remove this file update or add bitcoin#29251 and its validation and Dash adaptations to the metadata.

bitcoin#29251 is its own declared commit on this branch (ff50fd1) and the file matches upstream exactly. The missing bitcoin#29251 entry is in the PR title/description, which the harness sets; nothing in the branch needs to change.

Re-review — Final validation — Phase 1 + Phase 2

Independently verified the complete diff at 48c97f5; no actionable defects found in the four backports or their Dash-specific CI adaptations. The imported formatter matches upstream exactly, renamed CI references are consistent, intentional upstream exclusions are documented, and the base's sanitizer change does not overlap these edits. Static review only: current CI shows successful lint, formatting, platform builds, and linux64/nowallet/SQLite tests; the multiprocess build and ASan/TSan tests remain pending, with no failed code checks reported.

The newer clang-format-diff.py from bitcoin#29251 exits 1 whenever it prints a diff; the old script only did that when clang-format itself failed. GitHub runs steps with bash -eo pipefail, so without this guard Dash's advisory format check would become a hard failure and stop before cat diff_output.txt could show the diff. The added lines keep the existing advisory behaviour and still fail on a real tool error (non-zero exit with no diff output).

or something similar? No more need to check both status + non-empty file; if failed - means diff exist; if not failed - means there's no diff and no overcomplications are needed

A non-zero exit from the updated clang-format-diff.py doesn't always mean a diff: it exits 1 after printing a diff, but it also exits non-zero with empty stdout when clang-format is missing or crashes. Treating every failure as 'diff exists' would hide those errors behind 'No Clang format differences found.' (the output file is empty), and a non-zero step would fail this informational check whenever a diff is found. The extra empty-output check is what tells those cases apart, so it is the smallest change that keeps the old behaviour with the new exit codes.

I still can't figure out how that's possible that ./contrib/devtools/clang-format-diff.py got a new feature but code become more complex.

instead fixing it, try to re-write this job name: Run Clang-Format-Diff.py from scratch

Btw whatever clang-diff crashed or diff is not empty -> ci job should fail, isn't it?

I tried a fix but it failed local gates in bitcoin#29251 (verify: Upstream never touched this Dash-only workflow. The comment documents a new blocking CI policy the lane chose, the opposite of Dash's deliberately advisory check (commits 0bb5009, eb7554a).; This drops the '> diff_output.txt' capture and the advisory block after it, so the step now fails CI on formatting differences. The new script's exit 1 did require an adjustment, but one that keeps the s). bitcoin#29251 has had its repair lane and is being dropped from this branch.

Dash adaptations:
- .github/workflows/ci.yml: upstream's Xcode 15.0 switch in the native macOS job is not taken; Dash has no native macOS CI job, so there is nowhere to apply it.

Not applicable to Dash (intentionally omitted):
- .github/workflows/ci.yml: Dash replaced ci.yml with its own workflows, which have no native macOS job (darwin is cross-compiled on Linux), so the xcode-select switch has no counterpart.

- .github/workflows/test-src.yml: previous-releases cache key hashes the renamed 00_setup_env_native_previous_releases.sh
- .cirrus.yml: Cirrus task renames dropped; Dash runs these jobs through GitHub Actions + ci/dash/matrix.sh, which take the file renames instead

Not applicable to Dash (intentionally omitted):
- .cirrus.yml: Dash has no Cirrus CI; its counterpart (ci/dash/matrix.sh, .github/workflows/test-src.yml) is updated for the renamed files instead

P1 Badge Restore the advertised bitcoin#29251 backport

After checking the full d5bc16aa^..d5bc16aa diff, this cache-key rename is the only GitHub-workflow edit, and both contrib/devtools/clang-format-diff.py and .github/workflows/clang-diff-format.yml have exactly their parent blob IDs, so the title/body's claim that bitcoin#29251 and its Dash workflow adaptation are included and tested is false. Fresh evidence relative to the earlier thread is that the current post-base diff contains only the other three backports. Restore bitcoin#29251 or remove it and its validation claims from the metadata.

This branch only carries bitcoin#28755, bitcoin#29195 and bitcoin#29218, and none of its commits mention bitcoin#29251. The test-src.yml cache-key change is the planned bitcoin#29218 adaptation for the renamed 00_setup_env_native_previous_releases.sh. Any claim that bitcoin#29251 is included is a stale PR title/description problem, not a backport error in the branch, so the description should be corrected rather than the code changed.
