## Vercel Speed Insights Implementation
### Summary
Successfully implemented Vercel Speed Insights for the Cole Snipes Portfolio project. This enables performance monitoring and real user metrics collection through Vercel's platform.
### Changes Made
#### 1. **Installed @vercel/speed-insights package**
- Added `@vercel/speed-insights` dependency to `package.json`
- Updated `package-lock.json` with new dependency information
- Installation used `--legacy-peer-deps` flag to resolve existing peer dependency conflicts with @react-three/drei and @react-three/fiber
#### 2. **Modified src/main.jsx**
- Added import: `import { SpeedInsights } from '@vercel/speed-insights/react'`
- Added `<SpeedInsights />` component to the React render tree within the AchievementProvider
- Placed the component at the root level to ensure it tracks all page views and interactions
### Implementation Details
The `SpeedInsights` component from `@vercel/speed-insights/react` is used because:
- This is a modern React application using Vite (not Next.js)
- The React package provides seamless integration with React applications
- It automatically tracks Core Web Vitals and sends them to Vercel's dashboard
- The component is lightweight and non-blocking
The SpeedInsights component placement within the AchievementProvider (but at the same level as the App component) ensures:
- It captures performance metrics for all routes
- It doesn't interfere with the application structure
- It respects the existing error boundary and router setup
### Verification
- ✅ Build completes successfully with no errors
- ✅ No breaking changes to existing code
- ✅ All dependencies resolved correctly
- ✅ Package-lock.json updated with new dependency
### Next Steps for Users
1. Enable Speed Insights in the Vercel dashboard for the project
2. Deploy the application to Vercel
3. Once deployed, Speed Insights will automatically start collecting performance data
4. View metrics in the Vercel dashboard under the Speed Insights tab
### Additional Notes
- The project already has Sentry configured for error tracking and web vitals monitoring
- The Speed Insights integration complements the existing monitoring setup
- The implementation follows the official Vercel documentation for React applications
- No configuration is needed; the component works out of the box once the app is deployed to Vercel
