## 2026.70.0

This release upgrades the bundled Ruff version to `v0.16.2` and includes a couple of additional changes:

- Both Python extensions are now optional ([#1126](https://github.com/astral-sh/ruff-vscode/pull/1126))

This partially restores the breaking change from v2026.64.0, where the Python extension was made
optional and replaced with a required dependency on the Python Environments extension. That change
proved to be more disruptive than we expected and was reverted in v2026.66.0. This time, both
extensions have been made optional. The Ruff extension will prompt you to install one of them on
its first startup if neither is present and otherwise fall back to a manually configured, globally
installed, or bundled Ruff executable.

- The extension now declares support for TOML files ([#1127](https://github.com/astral-sh/ruff-vscode/pull/1127))

This change supports enforcing our new (`RUF201`) and existing (`RUF200`) configuration-related
lint rules directly in the LSP.
