What does FileVerifier do?

FileVerifier checks the files in the current directory if their identifying bytes are matching the expected bytes by their file extension.

Building from source

  1. Make sure you have golang installed.
  2. Clone the repo or download the code as zip and extract.
  3. In the directory with main.go open a Terminal and run go build.

MacOS / Linux

  1. Run cp FileVerifier /usr/local/bin. (cp may need sudo permissions)

  2. Open a new Terminal window and confirm it works by running FileVerifier.

Windows

  1. Move the built executable (FileVerifier.exe) to any location on your system where you'd like to keep it permanently. For example, C:\Tools\FileVerifier\.

  2. Add that location to your PATH so you can run the tool from any terminal:

    • Press Win and search for "Edit the system environment variables", then open it.
    • In the System Properties window, click Environment Variables.
    • Under User variables (or System variables if you want it available for all users), find the variable named Path and select it, then click Edit.
    • Click New and paste in the folder path where you placed the executable (e.g. C:\Tools\FileVerifier), just the folder, not the .exe file itself.
    • Click OK on all open windows to save.
  3. Open a new terminal window (PowerShell or Command Prompt, existing windows won't pick up the change) and confirm it works by running: FileVerifier
