Summary

This pull request removes the intro animation from the home page and moves its red, glowing DataLaVista title into the top bar.

  • The animation, its styles, its script, and the spoken audio it played are gone from src/website/index.html.
  • The top bar now shows the red, glowing title in the Bebas Neue font, in place of the sunglasses emoji and the white Orbitron title. It is the page's only main heading.
  • On screens narrower than 700 pixels, the menu wraps under the title and the "Fork me on GitHub" ribbon is hidden, because it covered the menu. The Code link opens the same GitHub page.
  • The feature cards now fit screens as narrow as 320 pixels. Before this change, the page scrolled sideways on phones.
  • The skip link no longer shows a thin red line in the top-left corner before it receives focus.
  • The notes in styles/datalavista-style.css and docs/repository-maintenance.md no longer mention animation styles.

Accessibility

The red title on the dark top bar has a contrast of 3.8 to 1. That passes the WCAG AA rule for large text, and the title is 36 pixels tall. A comment next to the style says to keep it at 24 pixels or more.

Testing

  • Opened the page in headless Chromium at 1400, 390, and 320 pixels wide and checked the screenshots. The page is no wider than the screen at each size, the Bebas Neue font loads, and the browser console shows no errors.
  • git diff --check reports no problems.
  • tests/check-repository.sh could not run correctly on the Windows computer used for this change, because it has no python3 command. The Tests workflow on this pull request runs it.

Checks for the reviewer

  • Use the keyboard to check that the skip link still appears when it receives focus.
  • Look at the home page on a real phone after the website is published.

Remove the intro animation from the home page, along with its styles, its
script, and the spoken audio it played. The red, glowing DataLaVista title
that showed before the animation started now sits in the top bar, in place
of the sunglasses emoji and the white title. The title is the page's only
main heading, so screen readers still announce one heading at the top.

The top bar also no longer scrolls sideways on phones. Below 700 pixels the
menu wraps under the title and the "Fork me on GitHub" ribbon is hidden,
because it covered the menu and the Code link opens the same GitHub page.
The feature cards now shrink to fit screens as narrow as 320 pixels, and the
skip link is moved far enough up that it no longer shows a red line in the
corner before it receives focus.

The notes in the shared stylesheet and on the Repository maintenance page
no longer mention animation styles.
