Habo 4.0 is out - sync, backups, and self-hosting
After a long time heads-down, 4.0 is shipping today.
The headline is Habo Sync - cross-device sync with end-to-end encryption. I held off on this for a long time because I wasn't willing to do it the lazy way. So I built something harder.
Habo Sync is zero-knowledge. Your data is encrypted on your device before it leaves. My server stores and syncs an encrypted blob it cannot read. Not your habits, not your notes, not your streaks.
What that means in practice: you set a Master Password during setup, that's your key, and if you lose it I cannot recover your data. That's the tradeoff - and I think it's the right one.
Secure Cloud Backups run in the background so losing your phone doesn't mean losing your history. And for those who'd rather not depend on my infrastructure: self-hosting is fully supported, documented, and free forever. Guide is in supabase/README.md
Everything else: rewritten error handling, habit notes capped at 400 characters, and the new sync flows are available for community translation on Weblate - if you want to help bring them to your language, that's the place.
Update from your app store. Hosted sync is available as a subscription. Self-hosting is free.
Bug reports and friction points welcome here or in issues. And if Habo has been useful to you, a star still goes a long way.
