How does swingmx decide if an album is a single/EP or not?

For a certain artist, I have multiple albums, but for some reason, one of them is listed as Single/EP. Tags are similar in all files (created using same CD ripper software).

How is the distinction between an album and a single/EP done?

It seems the directory with the tracks or the album tag in the files needs to end with the release type, for example an EP should be named/tagged <name> - EP to be detected as EP, or <name> - Single to be detected as single.
