My name is Jake, though I sometimes go by Spotandjake. I'm a Canadian software developer and open-source enthusiast who loves building things, figuring out how they work, and contributing to projects and problems that I find interesting.

My favourite areas are compilers and WebAssembly, but I tend to dabble in just about everything. I really enjoy working with low-level systems and understanding how things work under the hood, while still being a big fan of high-level programming and the abstractions that make complex software easier to build. Programming languages, developer tooling, runtimes, and the systems underneath them are some of the things I find most interesting.

I'm a core team member of the Grain programming language, where I work on the developer experience across the compiler, standard library, runtime, and other tooling.

Outside of Grain, I enjoy contributing to the wider WebAssembly ecosystem and working on open-source projects of all kinds. I've spent time working on everything from compilers and Binaryen to backend systems and web development. More than any particular technology, I enjoy finding an interesting problem and figuring out how to solve it.

Open source has been a huge part of how I've learned and grown as a developer. I love that software can be open enough to read, understand, experiment with, and learn from.
