Font Awesome Brands?

I know that nerd fonts gets a good part of its icons from the Fontawesome fonts, but I wonder if the brands pack has been added, specifically.

I was trying to use the icon for Signal Messenger (U+e663 on fontawesome), but couldn't find it, even in the cheatsheet on the website.

Now my question is, has that pack not been included? Or is the one being used simply outdated? Or something else?

Brands are included, but Nerd Fonts uses a custom selection rather than the complete current Font Awesome catalogue.

In the released Nerd Fonts v3.5.1, the Font Awesome source README identifies the set as 6.5.1.custom2 and notes that it does not contain every 6.5.1 icon. The mapping includes brands such as GitHub and Discord, but has no Signal Messenger entry. The build script also explicitly excludes upstream icons in the U+E000–U+EFFF range, which includes U+E663.

So your missing Signal icon is a limitation of the included selection. Copying Font Awesome's U+E663 into a Nerd Font won't select Signal Messenger. Some included icons also use remapped codepoints: for example, Discord is nf-fa-discord, U+F1FF, in Nerd Fonts. Use the Nerd Fonts cheatsheet/codepoints for included icons; Signal Messenger itself would require a separate font containing that glyph or an update to the Nerd Fonts selection.
