Right clicking many videos to open with Flatpak Celluloid causes Caja to crash.

Hi.

I'm using MATE 1.26.2 on Debian 13 Trixie.

If I select a lot of video files and right click to open with Celluloid [Flathub version], then Caja crashes [well at least all windows close]. Caja is ok right after though.

If I click and drag a lot of selected video files in Caja onto an open instance of Celluloid, then there's no issue.

I don't have Celluloid or Flatpak but my guess is this is somehow sending bad data back to Caja somehow.

If you can run caja in another session (so caja is not autostarted) from terminal under gdb
gdb caja
run --force-desktop
you should get some text at the crash. If you install the debugging symbols (the -dbg package associated with it in Debian based disros) and do this you can then get a backtrace while gdb is still running by typing
thread apply all bt full
copy the text this generates out of terminal and post it here after checking to ensure no personal/private information (e.g sensitive filenames) was captured.

Hi. Done, it's installed. Can you clarify what you mean by another session. Do you mean in a tty or can I just run it in the terminal in my current log in? Also, do I run 'gdb caja' and then 'run --force-desktop' in the same terminal window [or in separate tabs?]. Then do I run Celluloid [from terminal or GUI?]. Thanks.

Caja is setup to operate as only one instance. Invoking caja from command line thus simply connects to the existing session. There is a way to attach GDB to a running process but I don't know it. Easiest way is to run caja as root using sudo gdb caja as this will force a new instance to launch. Just don't risk doing anything in it that could trash a file needed by root! I don't know anythibg about Celluloid or Flatpak though, so no idea if Celluloid would be accessable from a root instance of caja. Also be careful not to let the ownership of the video files get changed to root. Correct way would be to remove caja from required session components in dconf-editor in org>mate>session>required-components-filemanager by setting that to an empty string, then starting a new session. Caja will not start with that session, freeing you to launch it from the commandline under gdb. When you are done, open dconf-editor again and add caja back to org>mate>session>required-components-filemanager

Once you have a session running without caja autostarting (or possibly using sudo for a root instance) in terminal you type gdb caja and at the prompt that comes up you then type run --force-desktop
