Add Genre / Tag support

It would be cool if it would tag the songs to add their genre. I know deezer atleast provides this with their api, but its annoying that its not in musicbrainz. https://wiki.musicbrainz.org/Genre (You supply it in the tag page.)

The main problem is I don't see any way of doing this during the initial creation so I think it has to be after the user has created the release.

Yes, it has to be a separate step, probably on the release actions page. Tags can be submitted via the MB API, but we need user authentication for that.

(Creating a new issue is the better way, the roadmap is mainly my personal dumping ground where I put my initial list of ideas because I was too lazy to create separate issues for all of them 😅)

Bandcamp also has genre and tag data that can be submitted. there is a userscript by zabe40 for it currently, but it just copies the list into the Tag box on any MusicBrainz Release page

I will note that both SoundCloud and Bandcamp can have genres and tags on the track level as well as the release level, and it would be worth considering adding support for adding those tags too

Personally, I have automated adding tags for myself and I can share the code. However there's a concern: blindly submitting tags from bandcamp is probably not a good idea, since in 80-90% cases they are not populated on a per-album basis, but rather copied from the artist which leads to many wrong tags. I always give the album a listen and always find that tags are incorrect or only partially correct.

From what I observed on other platforms, Qobuz tags are mostly wrong (or even egregiously wrong) and Discogs tags are mostly correct. Not sure what other platforms provide them.

I don't want to sound luddite but if we automate additing of tags without proper review, it will make it too easy for editors to import them.

Yeah, being able to de-select "wrong" tags before submission would be the bare minimum.
Even better if Harmony would additionally allow users to have their own ignore list of tags which they never want imported.

Bandcamp does automatically add a tag for the artist's locale, which I don't personally see an issue with adding, but that could be an easy automatic exclusion (maybe with a user setting to turn it back on?)

I referred not only to the geotag, but also to artist/label pages where music genres change from release to release. If the artist tags show electronic/techno and this artist releases an ambient album without explicitly filling tags, bandcamp will show electronic/techno on its tags, and that is wrong to just copy to MB.

Excluding geotag is also not that easy, because sometimes it's a country and sometimes it's a city. But personally, I don't see a problem with adding it too. Even though this info is not very helpful as it duplciates the stuff in the area field, it also doesn't hurt.

if you're scraping the page, it should be easy (or if the artist locale is in the API, I forget how Harmony works with Bandcamp, lol), because you can simply look on the sidebar and match one of the words in the correct area with one of the tags, I think that would be simple enough using a scraper (tho I don't actually have any experience with building them)

Yeah, I suppose that's possible, but that's solving only geotags problem.
