Thank you for your interest in contributing to Kept.
Kept is licensed publicly under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3
only (AGPL-3.0-only). Contributions are welcome, but all contributions are
accepted only under the Contributor License Agreement below.
If you do not agree to the Contributor License Agreement, do not submit a pull request, issue patch, code snippet, documentation change, design asset, or other copyrightable contribution.
By submitting a contribution to Kept, you agree to the following terms.
"Project" means Kept.
"Maintainer" means ericerkz, the owner or steward of the Kept project, and any legal entity or successor designated to own, publish, commercialize, or maintain the Project.
"Contribution" means any code, documentation, design, text, issue patch, pull request, commit, suggestion, configuration, test, asset, or other copyrightable material that you submit to the Project.
"You" means the person or legal entity submitting the Contribution.
You retain copyright ownership of your Contribution.
This agreement does not prevent you from using, licensing, selling, or publishing your own Contribution elsewhere.
You grant the Maintainer a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, fully paid-up, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, make, have made, sell, offer for sale, import, sublicense, relicense, and otherwise exploit your Contribution in any form and for any purpose.
This includes, without limitation, the right for the Maintainer to license your Contribution:
- under the AGPLv3;
- under later or different open-source licenses;
- under commercial, proprietary, hosted-service, App Store, or paid licenses;
- as part of free or paid versions of Kept;
- as part of dual-licensed or multi-licensed versions of Kept.
If your Contribution includes or implicates patent rights that you own or control, you grant the Maintainer and users of the Project a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free, fully paid-up patent license to make, have made, use, sell, offer for sale, import, and otherwise transfer the Contribution and the Project containing the Contribution.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you waive and agree not to assert any moral rights, author's rights, rights of integrity, rights of attribution, or similar rights that would interfere with the Maintainer's ability to use, modify, commercialize, sublicense, or relicense your Contribution.
Where such rights cannot legally be waived, you agree not to assert them against the Maintainer, users of the Project, or recipients of sublicensed versions of the Project.
You represent that:
- you have the legal right to submit the Contribution;
- the Contribution is your original work, or you have sufficient rights to submit it;
- submitting the Contribution does not violate any contract, employment agreement, open-source license, confidentiality obligation, or third-party right;
- if your employer or client owns rights in the Contribution, you have received permission to submit it under this agreement;
- the Contribution does not knowingly include malicious code, intentionally hidden functionality, or material security vulnerabilities.
The Maintainer is not required to accept, use, publish, maintain, or merge any Contribution.
The Maintainer may modify, reject, remove, rewrite, relicense, or stop using any Contribution at any time.
You provide your Contribution "as is", without warranty of any kind, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
By opening a pull request, submitting a patch, or otherwise providing a Contribution to Kept, you confirm that you have read and agree to this Contributor License Agreement.
Pull requests may be rejected if they do not clearly indicate acceptance of this agreement.
Suggested pull request confirmation text:
I have read
CONTRIBUTING.mdand agree that my contribution is submitted under the Kept Contributor License Agreement.
- Open an issue before making large changes.
- Keep pull requests focused and reasonably small.
- Include tests where practical.
- Do not submit code copied from another project unless the license is compatible and the original notice is preserved.
- Do not submit AI-generated or third-party-generated code unless you have reviewed it and have the right to contribute it under this agreement.
- Make sure your contribution does not introduce dependencies with licenses that conflict with AGPLv3 or Kept's commercial licensing goals.
Kept is AGPLv3-only. Contributions should be compatible with AGPLv3 and with the Maintainer's ability to offer separate commercial or alternative licenses.
Do not add dependencies or copied code under licenses that would prevent commercial relicensing, dual licensing, App Store distribution, or hosted-service distribution by the Maintainer.
When in doubt, open an issue before adding the dependency.
The public version of Kept is licensed under AGPLv3.
The Maintainer may also offer separate commercial, proprietary, hosted, App Store, or alternative licenses. The Contributor License Agreement is intended to ensure that accepted contributions can be included in those versions without requiring separate approval from each contributor later.
Contributors do not receive royalties, ownership in the Project, revenue share, or any right to approve commercial licensing unless separately agreed in writing.
By contributing, you certify that one of the following is true:
- The Contribution was created entirely by you.
- The Contribution is based on previous work that is compatible with this Project's license and contribution terms.
- The Contribution was provided to you by someone who certified that they had the right to submit it under these terms.
- You are authorized by your employer, client, or rights holder to submit the Contribution under these terms.
