Closed captions (CC) always return

Describe the bug

Despite disabling these, they will always return!

Steps to reproduce

Example:
Go to YouTube Plus settings, then Player, then set preferred captions to disabled. This will disable them.

Then play a video.

The next video you watch will have CC back again.

Is there a reason why you want to disable it in the YouTube Plus settings? You can just turn off CC in any video in the settings

Please can you confirm where exactly in the main YouTube settings you can toggle CC to be permanently off? Everything I've seen doesn't work. Thank you.

Click on any video, then click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the video. A menu will appear, click on captions and then click turn off captions. This will turn off captions for all videos you view. There is also a show when muted toggle that you can disable as this will show captions if your volume is turned all the way down. Let me know if this works for you

The answer is unfortunately no - that only works if the main YouTube toggle Settings>Playback>Playback in feeds is set to off.

If Playback in feeds is set to on, then CC always comes back after completing your steps.

Weird, I had playback in feeds off, so I tested it and turned it on and my CC are still off. They are on when you are scrolling through the feed but when you click on a video, they are not there. Is that your original concern, that CC are on when you scroll through your feed or when you click on a video?

You're right actually, it's the same for me.

They appear when scrolling but not when I click into the video.

Can't we disable them when scrolling too?

No clue tbh, I haven't looked into it and I always have playback in feed off so I never see captions. I don't think I've come across a youtube setting that turns it off in previews, it could be like this by default and no way to disable it. Sorry I couldn't fully resolve your issue but at least you won't see them when watching a video.

they added few new features for captions, ie "Show captions when muted", i'll add more options for that soon
