Assortment of odd issues on Kubuntu

So I'm trying to use this program on Kubuntu Linux, and I can't open it normally with the .jar file, I have to run java -jar /home/nurfgal/Downloads/KeysPerSecond-v8.9.jar in a shell just to get it to run, and then it just doesn't update when in most applications?? Like while tabbed into it and while typing in Discord specifically work, but nothing else seems to work. I'm genuinely at a loss for what I can do to fix this.

Hi, I'm not entirely sure how default run settings work on Kubuntu, seems like this question was asked online more often, though I have no idea how valid the solutions are. The missed inputs sounds most similar to a permission issue, to my knowledge applications are not able to receive input events for other applications if those other applications run at a higher privilege level, so you may want to check if that's the case. Technically I believe an application can also fully consume input events so they don't reach other applications, but as far as I'm aware that isn't common.
